How did we manage to get these good horses here in Italy? The biggest importation took place nearly 15 years ago by a rich merchant from Ferrara, who started breeding them. These horses live in the Po delta, an area very similar to the Camargue.
  Nowadays this breed is the most widespread both in the areas near Ferrara and in the whole Emilia's territory: it has its own genealogical register. They are easy to raise and feed; they live very well at the wild state, so they can run where they want staying out.
 
  It's not easy to raise horses in wide spaces, since there are not so many available in Italy. However many people started breeding in big spaces and then they get the best results. This kind of breeding does not need to be run by many people; in fact many farms who do this are often family run.
 
  This breed has been kept almost pure without "mixing" these horses with other breeds. There is also a calendar where it is possible to find out the date of birth of each horse. Every year has a letter and every horse born during that year has a name starting with that letter: everything started in 1988 and all foals born in 1988 had their name starting with an A. The letter, with to the proggressivo number of birth and the brand of the breeding comes then brand to fire to the puledro. The letter and the number on the neck, the symbol of the breeding on the thigh, all on the left side. This practical one to ulterior confirmation of the quality of the breeding is not much disseminating in Italy, while it turns out obligatory for the most rigid regulations of the French genealogico registry.
